Cub Cadet 782 Hydro Leak

Hello to all! I’ve been enjoying my 782, but when I park it, it leaks hytran on the floor. The leak ranges from small to mid size. I just figured I would go ahead and fix it. From the pictures it is obviously been leaking and is all over. There appears to be no leaking on the top of the pump, or the trunnion seals. It appears to be lower on the machine. I know the cork gaskets are notorious for leaking.

The question I have is should I remove the fenders and clean the pump up really good, so that I have a good idea and view? And then put a piece of cardboard on the bottom to try and find where dripping is coming from? Also, it it okay to use a little bit of baby powder to see where the leaking is running? I’m in high school, and I wouldn’t get to this project until next week, but I want to be ready! Thanks for the help as always!

If you have to ask, you'll never know. If you know, you need only ask.

You are pretty much on the right track to cleaning up the mess best you can and using baby powder to locate the source of leak. It may very well be the cork gasket but then it could be something else. When cleaning, pay attention to "wet" buildup of dirt and grass. Most of what I see in your pictures appears dry except on the bottom. Good Luck.

Okay, thank you! I’ll keep a lookout as I clean! :beerchug:

Likely the cork gasket between the hydro and gear case ?

That’s what it appears to be to me, but I’ll have to get the fenders off to take a look and clean up. I know they are common to fail and leak. Thank you, I’ll take a look!

Definitely easier to do the job when everything is clean. Take the pan off, clean everything thoroughly, after its dry use white spray on foot powder to find the obvious leaks. Some may not show unless it's running and some may just "sweat" but your drip just show up pretty quick.

Those rag joints don't look too good. You may want to look into replacing them and check your couplers for any wear. I bet the ball bushings are gone and check that front input seal too if you tear into it.

Hydro leak...

OCC is a great website! The guys were so helpful to me when I tore apart and restored my Dad's 1641. I've done two more Cubs since then. Don't be afraid to have at it...you can do it!! You've got all winter to work on it!

Best wishes for the Holidays!! :biggrin2:
