Hydro Transmission Rear Cover Plate Questions

I seem to recall that a cover plate from a gear drive IHCC will fit on a hydro IHCC. Difference being the gear drive cover plate had a drain.

But I also seem to recall that a gear drive cover plate with the drain could also be had or modified to add a sight glass window for oil fill level.

Need to change the hydraulic oil in my 149 and want to put a gear drive cover plate on it with a drain and hopefully sight glass window.

Any sage advice is much appreciated!

Best to remove the rear cover to drain and clean out all the crud in there then put it back on and fill through the fill hole.

The gear drives have the fill plug in a different spot, so if you put one on a hydro, your fluid level would be too low. I have never heard of any having a drain in the rear cover, but I think the gear drives, at least some of them, had a drain in bottom of the trans casting. That’s probably what you are thinking about. As far as adding a sight glass, I think that would be more work than it’s worth. Just pop the fill plug out, if fluid runs out your good. If it doesn’t, add some until it does. I agree with George, better to just take the cover off and clean it out.

Oil will also run out of it if there is water in the bottom of it... better to open the drain on the tranny to see what comes out if it has been sitting for a while.... catch my drift?
