I found this from a Cub dismantler. Deal included a scabby, but decent 48" mower deck. It needs some TLC.

That looks to be a Sovereign 18H, the best Simplicity Sovereign made with hydraulic lift and hydraulic power steering with rear belt-driven PTO and Autmatic traction control. I had a 7016 Sovereign at one time, but my dream Simplicity is an 18H. I have a Simplicity 1 Point Hitch (sleeve hitch) standing by when I find one in my neck of the woods. My 7016 had electric lift but manual steering.

The Sovereign was one of the best-designed shaft drives to right-angle gearbox drive lines made after Gilson. In many ways, it's better than a narrow, wide, or 82 series Cub Cadet. The front and rear belt-driven PTO was standard. The Sovereign 18H was made from 1993 till 2000. The Sovereign is also very easy to work on thanks to its flip-up fender deck. :ThumbsUp:

That's a rather unfair statement considering it's decades newer and toting a hefty MSRP of $5100 USD and up.

Back in the day, we had a Simplicity franchise. We sold a fair umber of these tractors and most loved them. They were rugged, stylish and dependable. However, they were a throw back from a bygone era and customers opted for newer designs. There was a time when Simplicity used the Kohler Triad engine. It was an overhead cam with a timing belt that was smooth and quiet...but it proved to be a terrible engine and was soon discontinued. The engines were replaced with Kohler Commands when the triads failed.

We had a 75th anniversary model and participated in the tractor parade in Port Washington, Wisconsin. The tractors were limited to 800 and ours was number 121. The event was incredible! Simplicity Mfg. was one of the best companies we represented at that time. The Simplicity Mfg company was sold in the early 2000s and significant changes occurred. Today Simplicity does not offer any lawn or garden tractors in North America.

The Sovereign tractor was Made for 30 plus years so it a very fair statement.

I wasn't just talking about the features the 18H had; the only extra feature it got was hydraulic power steering in the 1990s. Like Cub, they did focus on the electric actuator in the early 70s, dropping hydraulic lift for a little while. But the Sovereign outside of Lift and Steering. The Sovereign never changed; underneath, the basic tractor stayed the same for those 30-plus years.

The downside of Cub from 1961 through 1997 was only being able to use either a rear attachment or a front attachment, meaning you couldn't use both at the same time. With Deere, Simplicity, and many other brands, you could have a front mounted attachment and use a rear attachment as well.

About the only way you could do that with Cub was if you had a PTO pump loader. You could use the rear IH 3-point or industry standard Cat 0 3-point hitch. In a lot of ways, that has always limited the Cubs versatility. Until the MTD-made Cub Cadet 3000 series came out.
