Ongoing charging issues
 

I have been having charging issues for some time now on my 105. After bench testing my old voltage regulator using PackRat Fabrication YouTube videos I just ordered a new one. I installed and now get the battery to charge, but it starts charging at 15 volts and continues to increase the voltage the longer the motor runs.i shut things down when it goes over 17 volts, it gets up this high in about 30 seconds.
I tried a different battery that I know is good and got same results.
I also cleaned the ground and made sure it was tight. Pretty sure it's all hooked up correctly. I purchased the new regulator from db electrical online and should be the right regulator.

Any ideas of where to look next? I will probably bench test the new regulator and see when points are closing and opening when I get time next weekend.

Just a simple question, have you confirmed that the meter is accurate?

I'm confused by what you mean by "it starts charging at 15 volts"
Where are you measuring at what are you reading prior to "15 volts"?
Do you mean you see an instant jump to 15 volts the instant the engine starts?

Good question.... and also, I'm curious.... I checked DB Electrical's website and I couldn't find a voltage regulator listed for the Cub Cadet model 105 (or, in my case, the 125). All I found on their parts search engine for Cub Cadet XX5 model is the starter generator and nothing else. What was DB Electrical part number for the regulator that you installed?

"Pertty sure" and "should be", is like you doctor telling you he's "pretty sure" you don't have cancer but you "should be" finalizing your will just in case.

Some details of what you have hooked up to where would go a long way in someone helping you.

Yes the meter is accurate. I have used it on other applications and it works fine.

After the tractor starts and I connect the meter, it reads 15 volts. The longer the tractor runs the voltage reading increases from15 to 15.5 to 16 and so on.

It hooked up correctly according to the wiring diagram I found for the 105.
