Internal wiring on starter generator
Hello all. I have a 1965 cub cadet 122. I opened up the star generator to replace the brushes and found that the wire from the internal coil that attaches to the external yellow wire is snapped off at the bolt. Is that a crimp connector or a soldered loop? Also what size are the bolts sticking through the case for the red and blue wire because that post is crossed threaded. And my better off just purchasing one off of fleabag and rebuilding it or does a member have one they are looking to sell, which would be my preference.

Back in the day, the internal wires were spot welded to the bolt studs.
I've silver soldered them back then but thinking you might get away with soft soldering but don't "mud" solder them. Clean them well then sweat the connection so the solder flows into the joint.:beerchug: |

I agree with the spot weld.

I just rebuilt 2 generators, a good one and a spare from a bunch of parts and replaced the terminals using the kit in the picture. The terminals take solder well. You have to use a good hot iron and -Rosin Flux-. Do not use acid flux like for plumbing or acid core flux. The acid will slowly corrode the wire and get into the surrounding parts and start corroding them.

Acid core solder. I haven’t seen that in years. Im gonna use regular solder and flux not the water based flux either cause that’s total crap
