1450 Loader Hydraulics Plan

3 Attachment(s)
Hello all,

I'm in the planning stages for adding a light loader to my 1450. The plans I want to use are for the single-arm CadLoader model 507 (photo attached).

I have my reasons for going with this model over the traditional double-arm design:
  • I want the loader to be easily removable so I can still use the OEM snowplow with power-angle
  • I'm comfortable with the 400lb capacity of this design
  • I think it looks cool
  • Finally and most importantly, I THINK it will allow me to avoid having to add an auxiliary hydraulic system (PTO-driven pump, tank, filter, etc.)
That last item is really why I want feedback from this crowd. I've seen in other threads that there is no way to do a loader with the OEM ported pump, but hear me out! This design only has two cylinders. According to the designer, it requires a flow of "0.8-2.0 gal/min" and is designed to operate at a max pressure of 700PSI. My research shows that this should be well within the capabilities of the implement side of the OEM hydro on my 1450. If I'm missing something, please let me know!

Right now I have the OEM dual-spool valve on my 1450 that I use for the snow plow lift and power angle. As I mentioned, I would very much like to preserve that functionality. My plan is to install a 3-way valve on the pressure supply line coming from the pump so that I can select a secondary circuit with a second dual-spool valve to control the loader cylinders. I would run the low-pressure/return lines from both control valves into a "T" fitting and then back to the return on the pump.

I made the attached drawing of my plan and I was hoping some of you could take a look and offer any criticism or suggestions before I start buying parts and tearing things apart.

Many thanks in advance!

How is it to steer the Tractor ? I have 3 Loader tractor Two with Power-steering one with Manual I don't use the Manual steer tractor Much with the Loader except for winter snow removal.

Cad Loader has some great designs and Your 1 arm Loader Looks Great

looks great. I have a danco on a 106 steering is not easy when loaded. I seriously doubt mine can lift 400 pounds, the rear wheels get light with a bucket load and I have JD 75 pound weights on each rear, rear tires are liquid filled and my big FA in the saddle. this looks like a very nice alternative.

Steering is noticeably worse, but it’s not unmanageable at all. You just have to get used to timing your steering while the machine is moving. I think the bucket is pretty seriously overbuilt (all 3/16 plate) and that’s making the front heavier than it needs to be.

I have 115lbs of weight plates in a box behind the rear axle and that seems to be enough for moving mulch around my driveway and some light dirt moving, but I’d like to add another 50-75lbs. Definitely wouldn’t want to drive down a hill with anything heavy at this point. Planning to fill the rear tires when I get around to it.

I’d love to add power steering but sourcing the parts and tearing the thing apart again seems like a lot of work and mental energy when I have something that works. If I find a stupid deal on a super garden tractor w/power steering I I’ll consider switching it over I guess.

As I’ve gone through the process of the project, I’ve decided that I’m going to figure out a way to make a quick-attach system of some kind, and just build a mount for my snow blade. I’ll need to add a third-function for the power angle, and at that point I’ll build a lighter bucket with a removable grapple.
