governor issues

My engine revs and attempts to stall once it’s warmed up. As if its running out of fuel. It has gas and spark. I notice when I give it throttle the governor will open and close unless I give it less throttle. What’s wrong?

Thanks again guys.

Does it run smoother with partial choke? It could be a intake leak, take a can of brake cleaner and spray around the outside of the carb. If the motor revs up when you spray a certain spot you have a leak where you sprayed. If there's no leak, with the motor running wide open, try adjusting the high speed screw either in or out till it runs smoothly. Before you do that though, with the motor off, count the rotations it takes to lightly bottom out the screw so you know where it was before you adjust it in case adjusting it doesn't work. After you bottom it out remember to back it out the number of rotations you counted so that it will run when you throttle up.

Lee, I would forgo the brake cleaner Idea for now, Or else that sweet paint job you just finished up will be running down your driveway!

In the high speed needle there are tiny holes, not only do the holes need to be clear but also the passage through the center of the needle between the holes.

If the governor is searching, then the carb is not adjusted properly, it is dirty, it is sucking air (possibly the throttle shaft bore is worn out) or the engine is very tired and needing to be rebuilt.
