The 124 and creeper gears

I have been using the heck out of my 124 for a few years now after
rebuilding the engine and I absolutely love it except for the speed.
I use it primarily for knocking down the outlying stuff around the place.
And for the most part it handles anything I plow into, some of it quite deep.

I would love to slow it down. I have read through what is in the manual and
it certainly looks doable. Now for the question.

Is it possible to find one of these creepers? If you do how does one
figure out if it is even usable? I guess I am really looking for some
general info from you that have been around them.

Trying to get some winter projects lined up. Sorry didn't mean to use
the winter word but it was 42 degrees this morning when I took the dog
for a run.

Definitely a big slowdown with the creeper. They can be found. I believe you need to make sure you get the ones designed for narrow frames (shifter lever). Don't forget the collar.

Dog collar?
These are not for pulling or snow plowing! I have rebuilt over 25 of these. The main thing to look for is the 3 planetary gears and the condition of the input shaft. If you are buying on ebay, ask questions about its condition, are you buying as is? Red flag!!
Jeff from PA makes handles and refurbishes the shafts.

Ken, the creeper gear box's are definitely available (check eBay).
All it requires is an arm and two legs that you don't need. ($250-$300)
And keep in mind that you will need a new drive shaft too.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I did a little looking around on ebay
yesterday and while there are quite a few around they all look the same
to me. Not sure how to distinguish good from iffy. I will spend some
time researching and make my best guess and then run it by you
all before I buy. Just to make me feel better. Thanks again

Your original drive shaft should be scored right where it needs to be cut for creeper installation.
BEWARE, the creeper, when installed, will be the weakest spot in the drivetrain.
Mainly used for tiller and snow thrower operations.

I agree. the one in my 106 has been problematic in hard use, I am in process of removing it and going back to a simple three speed. if it was only used for snow blowing or roto tilling I would probably leave it but with the front end loader I find I am replacing roll pins in the collar and the shift fork once or twice a year as they shear. it requires splitting the tractor each time so CCS for the replacement drive shaft . my shaft was scored for the cut and predrilled for the roll pin so installation was a breeze. removing is easy after the tractor is in two pieces.
I will probably look for a 107/127 and move the danco loader at some point.

All good info thank you. I perhaps was not real clear in the original
post and should not have used the word plow.

While I could maybe use it for snow removal. My real intent for the
project is to slow it down for mowing. I mow quite of bit of stuff
around here that only gets knocked down a couple times a year.
It gets pretty wild and wooly at times. Mower handles it fine just moves to
fast in first with high throttle.

I think this is about right for speeds
1: 2.5mph
2: 3.5 mph
3: 6.5 mph
1 low .5mph
2 low 1.0mph
3 low 1.5mph
all at WOT
reverse is a little faster than first but not by much
so like .6 mph in revers low and 2.8 in reverse high

I am sure someone has a graph or real numbers.

From the 124 Svc. Man.
So if you were mowing in 1st gear normal
you could mow in 3rd gear creeper
and slow down .6 mph.
