Cub Cadet starter

I have a starter problem. When turning the key to start the starter hesitates for a few seconds, then turns the engine over. I
thought the starter was going bad. I ordered another one. The new starter does the same thing, with a good battery. When I got the new starter I noticed the starter had been used, because of the marks on the gear. I think the starter was defective, returned and re packaged. I see a lot of cub Cadet starters for sale, are the starters that bad? What's your experience with the starters? Stan

I see you are new,
so welcome to OCC!
Sorry you are having problems with your starter but without more information what you are working on, we have no clue or even where to begin.

I used to have a crystal ball that was pretty good at guessing questions like that, but it got washed away in the flood of 1951.
Since that day, my powers of seeing into the future, have been greatly reduced.
I do predict with high confidence that if you continually load up the parts cannon and fire at will, it will either fix the problem or you will plum run out of money before it is fixed.
It is prudent that diagnosis before purchasing parts always has the best outcome. :beerchug:

Did they ever find that ball ???
Surely 73 years of looking would have turned up something

I once had a crystal ball but I lost it in a motorcycle accident.

No, I was younger then and my bicycle wouldn't float in the water to look for it.
It prolly eventually floated into the ocean, maybe all the way to the land of down under?
Then again it might of bumped into a rock and broke, letting all the magic smoke out of it, and we know how that goes with electrical stuff:biggrin2:

About all I see on my Cub Cadet is it's a XT1 Enduro Model. The starter hangs on the right side of the motor with two mounting bolts. The power cord is attached near the bottom on the side. Since my last post I got another starter, my second one delivered, and installed it. It does the same thing. It starts to turn, then in a short time it does turn the motor over. A few times like that the starter gets hot. I have over 12 volts going to the starter with a good battery. Is it possible I received two defective starters, or what else can be the problem. Need help in Southern California. Stan

There should be a white tag somewhere on the tractor, under the seal, on the left side of the frame. Find that and post the info. Model number and serial number.
