Delco Starter/generator pulley removal on CC 129
I’m removing my starter generator to replace with a remanufactured one and am wondering how I can remove the pulley in the front to swap on to my new one. When I try to remove the bolt on the front it just turns the shaft. How can I lock it so it can be removed. I don’t have an impact wrench so I tried wedging a big screwdriver and wrapped a belt around but that didn’t work and bent the pulley. I ordered a new pulley, but how do I put the new pulley on?

Here's a shade tree method
Put gen on tractor with the belt on and tensioned correctly. Put a wrench or a socket with a breaker bar on the bolt on the gen armature shaft. Make sure you know which way is tight and which loose. Whack the handle of the breaker bar or wrench "energetically" with a dead blow hammer or whatever you have at hand. That single blow will often emulate the impact wrench "shock" enough to loosen the bolt. |
Thanks much appreciated! Wondering if you might know what the torque settings would be to put the pulley nut back on? And any other tips about reinstalling this without an impact?

Did you get it off?

I ended up buying a new one and put a new pulley on it, using a rubber door stop to lock the pulley to tighten the nut.
