New To Me Cub Cadet 1882

Hey guys,

I picked up a Cub Cadet 1882 with a deck and a snow blower, for $150, obviously a steal. I don't know anything about cub cadets, so any tips you guys have, I am happy to learn. Off the top, I'd like to know how to ID the tractor off of the VIN, as I understand there were different submodels of the tractor. Are there any other differences I should know about?

My goals for the tractor so far, are to make sure nothing is catastrophically wrong with it, and then catch up on maintenance and mow with it for a summer to get a feel for it. Then I'd like to do a full tear-down, and rebuild/restoration, although I am not bent on keeping everything bone-stock. I'll upload some pictures later.

Thanks in advance for any tips/info!

Maintenance is a must. Itll treat you good for years but if you put off basic maintenance , itll break down on you in the worst place (furthest from where you store it).

Oil changes are important. I save money by extending the time between changes by several weeks to eek out more money. Oil filters too.

Keep an eye on tire pressure. They wear wrong if over inflated. And from experience, check the battery connections to be sure theyre not loose.

Safety-wise, check the hinges on the seat which lets you get access to the battery. Mine rusted through during a ride one day and it popped off. Very dangerous. Replacement brackets are cheap online.

There are a bunch of sites where you can get info on your tractor including YouTube:
