Best Drive Line System?

I have the drive shaft out of the CC 149. I made a new one a few years ago and replaced the rag joint and fan. During the time since , I managed to break one fin off the fan, so I though I'd balance the shaft while it's out. By slowly indexing the fan around the shaft I got it so there isn't any detectable heavy side. At 3,000 rpm the potential for vibration is pretty good.

But, what would be considered the "Best" drive line that the Cubs have had?

The best for smoothness and or durability?

Best driveshaft would be the newer CV joint type; smoothest is probably a belt.

At the suggestion of Sam Mac, I replaced my 149 drive shaft with one from the 2000/3000 series. About a 10" section had to be cut out
A section of the old drive shaft was inserted into the new one for alignment and strength, then welded. I got the new coupler for the hydro from Jeff and used the 2000/3000 fan which had to be trimmed down. That's been about 10 years ago. I think I replaced the rubber barrels once but otherwise smooth and trouble free.

That's a great innovation, Ironman! So, it bolts directly to the flywheel and just needs the pump input shaft adapter? Those couplings would also tolerate slight misalignment.

Anybody have a complete unit they'd like to sell and ship the Canada? Ebay has some, but I rather buy from a community member. And shipping is always a killer on Ebay.

There was a post on here about a split fan that you could fix around driveshaft without removing it
I saw on ebay a driveshaft about $160 USD
That is a great innovative idea Ironman
I just replaced the barrels in my driveshaft , now smooth as silk

Yes, bolts directly into the flywheel hub with four 1/4" bolts.
Bolts and nuts at the adapter end. By the way, Jeff's adapter uses a spirol pin and also has a set screw.

Thanks, but I can't take any kudos on this one, like I said above, it was a Sam Mac suggestion from way back.

Kudos to Sam Mac on that very clever adaptation

You do not need to weld the shaft, I just put the 5/8" shaft into the 2000 series shaft and spirol pinned it.
