M 18 or mv 18
Whats the difference between these engines? Does It take the same rebuild kit?
|
MV is the vertical crank version. I'm not sure on the difference in the kits.

What is included in the kit?
That asked: Pistons/rings are interchangeable,----- Cylinders are not. If equipped with gaskets, use gaskets, If mating surfaces use RTV, use RTV. While block-to-cylinders mating surfaces will accept both methods of sealing, you will be doing valve seat and/or stem grinding to set valve lash as it is the only means to do so, as no other adjustability is provided, if you try to use RTV where gaskets were previously used and visa versa. Do be aware some valves are *30 others are *45, they do not interchange. Do read the service manual closely before you proceed. Make sure you precision measure your cylinders before you order oversize pistons/rings if you plan on having the cylinders bored oversize. My apology if you already addressed these issues.:bigthink: |
Thanks for the info guys that helps me to buy the correct engine rebuild kit. For my m18 in my 1811 have you rebuilt a m18 before?
|
I have torn a M18 down enough to replace a grenaded governor gear. Since the engine in question ran great other than being unable to control the engine speed, I was able to keep the piston in the jug, and still disconnect the rod from that piston, so I did not need to pull the head, or remove the rod from the crank. I split the block, replaced the grenanded gear, cleaned all of the nylon bits from the sump, realigned the cam, then reassembled. It runs great to this day.

I want to do a complete rebuild to replace whats in my 1811 that burns oil. Then do a rebuild for a spare.
