1872 backhoe.
 

I have a towable backhoe for better manuverability I would like to adapt this to mount to the back of my 1872 do you think the rear of the tractor will support the extra weight?

Which towable one do you have? I was wanting to build the PF Eng. hoe but steel was too much $$.

Most people will tell you NO but someday I'll build the PF one.

I have the DR backhoe its pretty heavy duty from what I could find the weight is 940 lbs. I need to add I dont use the tractor for a mower its just a dirt machine. I'll see if I can add some pics.

My opinion is while the cubs are sturdy and tough they are not made to be abused in that manner, they are a garden tractor not a Kubota SCUT
But that is just my take.

X2. I think the bucket is plenty for the design of the tractor. Anything further is grossly exceeding the design limits. You should have a full floating axle design to support the weight reliably.

Kwik-Way made a backhoe for all Super Garden tractors. They never updated the product literature, but all Supers could take their backhoes as well. Too bad Don sold Kwik-Way to Hitch Doc; otherwise, I bet they would still produce both loaders and Backhoes for Garden tractors. At the end of Don Molstead's ownership, they had started to produce backhoes for sub compacts that the OEM didn't build a backhoe for, i.e., stuff like the Kubota non-backhoe Sub compact models :ThumbsUp:

Great info Sergeant, I was almost sure it was possible, after all the tractor is not taking the load of the digging process the out riggers would take the brunt of it. I can't see how it would be more wear and tear or abuse then pulling a plow. It would be interesting to see how kwikway mounted their backhoe.

One of those loaded/backhoe supers was on FB MP for $9k a few months ago.

Thanks Oak for pointing me in that direction, I just saw his videos he has done nice work,hopefully my project turns out as good as his.

My local tool rental years ago had a 16hp John Deere, (model number escapes me at the moment) with what I think was a Brantly back hoe unit. They said it worked well except for going over ruff ground, it would get hung up. Four wheel drive would have helped allot. It seemed to be a heavier unit than the kwik way and still handled it pretty well. I would give it a shot. :bigthink:
