127 front tire recommendations

After I get a new engine in my IH Cub Cadet 127 the tires will really need to be replaced. I plan on putting Ag style tires on the rear. Does anyone have any recommendations on front tires though, particularly the style? I will be using this to plow snow as it came the a snow plow/blade.

1. If you intend to plow snow you will need tire chains.
2. AG tires without chains would probably disappoint you.
2. If ALL you intend to do is plow snow, you would be better off with chains on turf tires. They provide a better tire/chain/ground contact than AG's with chains.
3. You didn't say if you have wide or narrow front wheels, but narrow ribbed fronts would be my choice.

I am aware that I will need chains and I’m also going to try to get a set a rear wheel weights.

I have the wide wheels, not narrow…

Snow plowing will be it’s primary use, but I might also do some garden/gravel work with the blade as well…

I had original equipment type tires on the front of my 125 and I use it for plowing snow. About 10 years ago the tires were dry rotted, needing replacement, so I put on narrow, ribbed tires on the front thinking that they would help with steering on snow and ice. It was a little better, but the improvement was not dramatic. I've often thought about adding weight to the front to help steering, but haven't done it yet. When the blade is angled, the tractor goes where the blade pushes it.

As for Ag tires on the back, I put them on 2 or 3 years ago and have never been sorry. They do not tear up the grass like I had been told and they do give better traction on dirt.

If you need chains on Ag's for snow pushing, make sure you get chains that have cross chains every other side link, instead of the standard cross chain every forth side link. It makes a HUGE difference.

Ribbed tires

1. Do they make those ribbed tires for wide wheels like I have or just narrow?
2. Also, would it be a proper or possible idea to install narrow wheels with ribbed tires on my 127 for snow removal?

Firestone ribbed tire on Ebay

Now I’m eyeing these up. $105 is a bit expensive though for a single tire.

I swapped the narrow front tires from my 123 for the wide tires that were on the 125 because the 123 is used for mowing and the 125 is used for snow plowing. The narrower the tire, the better it would work in snow, or at least that is how it seems to me.

Check https://www.millertire.com/ to see what sizes they have ribbed tires for. I got my ribbed front tires from Miller.

No help with tire advice, but;

Ironman seems to come up with some unorthodox and but very good looking paint schemes. I have to paint my 149 (not the frame) and have been wanting to get away from the yellow. :bigthink:

I eventually want to do an all red or all yellow Cub Cadet and make it more of an International.
I saw some pics on google of one that someone painted red and white; I know you said not the frame but it’s just an idea…
