Hi Guys- Jim from Vt.
I purchased a used 1250 30 years ago and have used around the house to do a multitude of things. It’s done what ever I’ve asked of it with no issues. In the last couple years I’ve noticed it started to leak a little hydraulic fluid (probably from the dreaded cork gasket). I lapped the valves 5 or 6 years ago and that is about the only thing I’ve had to do on my Cubby.
Now my Cub is 30 years older so am I :beerchug:

Over the last couple weeks I have been reading how guys have restored their Cubby. Well I’ve started the process let’s see where we end up.
The first thing I did was split the tractor, I wish I had tackled this before I put my hose up for the winter. Fortunately last Wednesday was warm enough I was able to get the transaxle to the back of shed so I could clean all the grit and grime off it. Yesterday I changed cork gasket (this is when I started the picture taking).
I think it went pretty good I followed the detailed procedure from (IHCUBCADET.COM and wonderfully written up by Gerry (Kendall)).
I also removed the rear metal cover and gasket (what was left) it had torn and was probably leaking although it was high enough it didn’t show evidence.

Now the transaxle is sitting on a make do bench in my shed and I’m thinking I should pull the hubs on each side and check the integrity of the oil and bushings on each side. I believe ( not sure) I will need to pull the keeper clip then the axle should slide out then remove the hub and inspect all.
Should I do this or not?:bigthink:

Is there a procedure for this somewhere?

Thanks
Jim

First, welcome to OCC.......... :Welcome2:

Remove the Axle Clips, pull the Axles, and do a visual check of the Bearings & Seals. Replace as needed. Then reverse your steps.

If you replace the axle seals, be very carful prying or pulling out the old ones as it is very easy to damage the needle bearing cage while doing so.

And while you are at it check the condition of the driveline couplers and flex disc joints on each end.

Good luck!

Very clean in there!! That's nice to see, 'cause your hydro is probably good too then.

I got axles removed cleaned everything up, it looks pretty good to me.
I think I’ll replace the axle seal, after 40 plus years I think there due.
Is there a special tool to remove the axle seals?
What are the drive-line couplers and flex disk joints?:bigthink:
Thanks for the direction.

Thanks Roland.
I thought that’s what you were describing. They look good to me I’ll get some pictures and attach later today.
:Thanks:
