Garlic and shallots for the winter
2 weeks ago I planted German Red hardneck garlic and some Shallots. They've already started to sprout!
This is my first time growing a garden over winter, but here in SC the winters are mild. I plan on blowing all my yard leaves over the garden as a mulch to protect against the cold. But it never gets below 20F here, and that's rare! |
Cool, glad to hear your experimenting in the winter garden. We have been
growing the German and Shallots for ever here in sown in the fall. Sounds like with those temps it should do great. We see -30 every winter and the crops do fine. Mulched of course. Good Luck Ken |
