Kohler 670s in a GT2550
Can anyone tell me if the Oil pressure indicator light should blink in unison with the CHG OIL led display?
Mine has commenced doing this, never noticed before. The sump is full. My first step after this commenced, was an oil and filter change, but both displays still blink. Manual says if light stays On, mine is blinking. Engine sounds fine, no rattles but until I get a definitive answer, will nor run it for too long. All help greatly appreciated. Oz |
Generally speaking.............. The Oil Light is connected to an Oil Pressure Safety Switch. I don't know the specifications on this switch (Cut-in & Cut-out) as far as PSIG tripping points, but with the engine not running (no pressure) the contacts should close (path to ground) and illuminate the Indicator Light on the Panel.
The pressure switch screws into the crankcase somewhere. One could remove that switch, install a "flared" adapter, hook up a hose to a pressure gauge, and get a reading. IIRC.......if there is more than 5 PSIG, the switch should open and the indicator light goes out. Thus, what is your Engine Oil Pressure ??? |

My light comes on when you turn on ignition (no pressure) then when motor starts it blinks in unison with CHG OIL light , so if oil pressure is low one presumes that light would stay on not blink as the circuit is closed (no pressure) Looked for the switch and at this stage it is still well hidden Do not have the equipment to connect a pressure gauge and do not know the oil pressure It gives the impression that it is timed with the CHG OIL light to attract operators attention BUT ??????? Okay think I found the pressure switch hidden behind the blower housing , what a wonderfully accessible spot !!!!!!!
Tried a full battery disconnect to see if that would reset , alas , No One thing the oil pressure light never blinked when ignition was on prior to starting now however it blinks with the CHG OIL display on the LED display prior to starting and when running This makes me think it is an attention getter not a low oil pressure problem But will not run until the definitive answer is acquired Hopefully someone on here has an answer Oz |
Thus, it sounds like an electrical issue.
I looked for a GT2550 Wiring Diagram. I found many. It depends on serial number range and/or age. |
Have got a wiring diagram and parts manual both show the wire and my presumed location of the switch in different places to my machine
Will look today for a Kohler manual and see if it can shed any more light on my predicament Found this site https://www.kohler-engine-parts.opee...ducts_id=34596 Also forgot this engine has Oil Sentry so will not start with low or no oil pressure But will get a definitive answer on the mutual blinking Oz |
OK so I spoke to Cub Cadet dealer and was assured all is good , then was contacted by MTD (Cub Cadet Australia) and was told it is OK , so I guess it is OK

Mowed this morning and pressure light went out after 5 minutes running time , so did CHG OIL "led"
Me thinks this is a dumb set up as low oil pressure light means that , not change oil The other dumb thing is there is absolutely no mention of this in the Operators manual or anywhere else I searched Anyway my stress levels have subsided dramatically Oz |
