Leaf Blower Issues II

Have a Poulan leaf blower that will not start. Yes, understand that these are not the greatest, but was free & had been running. Can adjust idle so that it is smooth; however, the high side, just cannot get adjusted to where unit will run.
Once warmed up, the unit will run for a little while at half throttle, but not long, then backfires through carb & shuts off. Have tried to adjust high side while at half throttle, but blower bogs down, backfires, then stops. Cannot rev past half throttle.
Muffler & spark arrestor are a single unit. Flushed muffler & SA w/carb cleaner couple times & air goes through muffler very easy.

Could the timing be off or the coil be bad? Not sure how timing could be off since not adjustable, but ckd the flywheel & it is mounted correctly. Coil is new, but maybe it is bad. The backfiring through carb is also odd.

Suggestions on next steps or what else to check? Yes, toss in trash is an option. Tks

First did you check to see if the EXHAUST hole/port was clogged with mud dauber critters clay/mud?
----this is their time of the year.
Then burn out the cylinder with your propane torch, ridding it of residual fuel, as you say the plug is "wet" then install a fresh plug or burn out the "wet" plug.
when that is done, if you "cleaned" the carb it just might need a slight tweeking of the low and high jet settings as you had them out to "clean" the carb.
But admittingly, they can only be adjusted/tweaked after it is running,
Did you return the screw settings to where they were when it ran well? other wise you need to start with the basic settings suggested in the "book"
Do not use "starting fluid" carb cleaner etc as a "starting aid"

Thanks Yes, checked the exhaust/spark arrestor, it is a single unit & air flows through it very well & easy. Otherwise would need to replace the entire unit, but it appears to be free of crude. Will double ck though.
Correct, unit will not run long enough to adjust or tune L/H sides. Returned them to zero then backed out 1.5 turns each to try & get engine to run.
New plug & poured small amount of fuel into cylinder, but still would not run. Tried a Walbro carb & pretty much same results. Unit has a Zama carb & not so sure it is functioning correctly, but who knows.

try one turn on the low side and 2 or 2 1/2 on the high. and get the cylinder clean and a fresh plug.
a "wet" plug is not a good thing.

Gee Ducksrus, the last time I was in Tennesse, I didn't want to work either! You live in a beautiful State. :biggrin2:

Thanks Yes, the Echo is definitely the way to go. May save the $40+ for a new carb & put it towards the Echo.
