K321AQS burning oil
Hey I’ve got a 1979 1450 hydro. I had a couple oil leaks I fixed over the winter, had the engine out to do it but now I’ve cut the grass I seem to be burning oil. Seems like it burns 1/2- 3/4 liter(quart) per 2-3hours of cutting. It doesn’t smoke or anything which I think is odd. I thought I’d be able to see it in the exhaust but I can’t. What would be my next go to? Re doing the top end? And if so is it fairly straight forward? I have a decent knowledge which 2 strokes have done a handful of top end 2 strokes but nothing 4 stroke. Is it similar? Are valves easy enough to figure out?
Thanks for the help |
Oil consumption is in usually in these areas. (A) The Piston Rings, and/or (B) the Valve Guides.
It is a straight forward process, and as you would expect, it is engine tear down. There is a Kohler Engine Service Manual (K Series) in the Technical Library Section, for download to aid in your repairs. :IH Trusted Hand: |
That's alot of oil for there not to be smoke. I'd suggest looking it over real good to make sure there isn't a leak.
