Kohler K321 on Cub Cadet 1450 Surging
Kohler Engine K321 Cub Cadet 1450, was running great. Then over night when the engine started it didn't sound right, started Surging then stalls out. I had another new carburetor replaced it case the older one was dirty. Unfortunately, it did not improve the running of the engine. I have on order new Points, Condenser & Plug. Tested, the Coil Ohms which measure 3.7/3.8.
Is there any other item that I am missing that could cause this? I am thinking it is electrical... Any Assistance is appreciated. Sincerely, Bob https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/724615710/privacy |
Fuel starvation. i.e. fuel line, fuel filter, crap in tank, clogged fuel cap vent

Times 2 on what Iron Man says. I would start with the fuel tank and clean
everything in the fuel system. Not only will you know it well when you are done. Anything in the fuel system will no longer be part of the equation. Really inexpensive project that yields great results. Good luck, let us know how you make out. Ken |
Fuel Tank Good, with New hose and filter. As engine is surging very small particles of fuel can be seen spraying from the Carburetor, thats why I thought it is electrical. Ignition wires were also replaced, waiting for the parts to arrive see what results.
Thank You, Bob |

Didja remove the filter from inside the tank? There is one on the shutoff. Plus the fuel hose should run downhill not up like it is in the picture. Your carb looks like a china carb, is the other one you took off the same?.

I'd start by losing that in-line filter.'
Is that something you just put on? In addition to the one already in the tank it just makes for more un-needed restriction in the line. https://resources.kohler.com/power/k...df/tp_2379.pdf Section 6.12 |
If you have not done so already, another thing to try is tweak the carburetor. Richen the main jet and see if that works.

Yes, that is a Chinese, one I had that on hand. I have the Walbro that came off the engine & am cleaning it up.
I didn't know there is a filter in the tank. I will have to see if there are any issues with it. I removed all the fuel from the tank & replaced the hose with the in-line filter (not knowing about the internal one). That will all come off tomorrow, I will re-clean out that entire system, remove the shut off valve inspect it all & re-route the hose and see how it will run. Thanks a lot I appreciate the comments & help. |
