Let the rebuild begin

I got my ultimate rebuild kit from isavetractors with a .030” over piston and picked the block up from the machine shop today. Can’t wait to get er back together!

Make sure that block is nice and clean before you start! I’m sure the machine shop hot tanked it and all that, but that alone won’t get it quite clean enough.

Have fun :beerchug:

And by Clean we mean hot soapy water!!! not only clean in the crankcase, but the bore especially.:beerchug:

I’ll clean it up in a bucket of dawn and hot water. They told me they put it through a block washing machine. Kinda like a dishwasher but for engine blocks. Nonetheless, I’ll do the hot soapy water method followed by a dousing of WD40. My oldest son races dirt oval karts so I have to budget my time accordingly. Dirt is for racing, asphalt is for getting to the racetrack!

Take a deep breath and enjoy the ride. For me anyway half the fun is just
standing there taking it all in. It's quite an education.

Slowly but surely

Static time the engine while you have it out and can still see the timing marks on the flywheel.
Only way to go.

I painted the “S” mark on the flywheel with a paint pen. When you say “static time”, do you mean using a voltmeter and listening for the beep when the timing mark comes into view through the window of the blower housing?

That is an excellent post, I appreciate that. The hardware store where I live is closed on Sunday, so I’ll get new grade 8 head bolts tomorrow. I used a granite block and sandpaper to true my cylinder head. Took what seemed an eternity, but I got it true and flat. Do I need to polarize my generator and voltage regulator again?
