Loader advice needed
I have taken possession of a Johnson loader. I want to put the loader on a super cub. I have a 1882 with like 3000 hrs and it has lived a hard life. I would rather find another super cub that isn't quite as beat to death as mine, and I also want 3 point hitch as well. I have all pieces for the loader itself but nothing for mounting it the tractor itself. A lot I don't know and that's why I am calling on those with more experience to help save me some grief. So any do's and don'ts would be greatly appreciated. Questions that I have...
1.) Is there a "best" place to tie the loader frame to the tractor frame? 2.) Should I tie the loader frame to the tractor frame in more than one place? 3.) What does this cross member type bracket generally look like? 4.) How thick of material should I use for brackets attaching loader to tractor? 5.) Since I don't have the tractor, is there a super cub more desirable for this application since I will be shopping anyways? I am anxious to get things going but since I don't even have the tractor yet I can at least start hoarding materials and start brainstorming. Thanks,Tim |

I like the 72/82 series machines. Here is a pic of my 1772 with a Kwik-Way loader.

Unless you bolt it on or something up high. I added 100# to the 3 pt box scraper on my 284 and that seems about right for light loader work. Needs 55 gallons of concrete to really pick stuff up, but on a cub I'd be worried about the hitch releasing itself :bash: |

You might consider this manual for the Johnson 14 loader, It shows it fitted to a QL Cub Cadet. Maybe some pictures in it showing mounting brackets to give you some ideas.

I sold it to a fellow that had a John Deere LT and included the necessary mods in the deal. It was a well made FEL but the Sears 5/8 front spindles were a bit light duty for it. That wouldn't be a problem, on say, an 1872 with 1" spindle and power steering. The QL's have 3/4" spindles but no OEM power steering, power steering is really a plus with a loader. |

I have a Johnson on a 147, and rear blade with 72lb of weights off a ZTR bagger kit on the back of it, and 80 lb of suitcase weights riding directly on the sleeve hitch, and that seems to do pretty well to balance it out, with about 220 lbs on the seat. Had a two spool valve on it for the loader when i got it, and changed to a 3 spool to power rear lift as well. Only issue I've had is the hyd cylinder for the rear lift will find the weakest link between it and the blade, and have broken 2 of the cast iron rear lift arms... one is at the blacksmith as we speak being used as a pattern to get one made that should outperform the cast...

Anyone have a thickness of the steel used on the bracket to mount the loader to a tractor?
