Cub Cadet shortage?

Hello all!

So just wanted to get some other opinions on this.

I have always been one to peruse for Cubs once a week or so on the platforms we all use. Craigslist, ********, offer up, etc. For the last 6-8 months I have noticed a much smaller offering. I get we are in a "pandemic" and maybe people are leery of having people come to their homes to look at cubs for sale, But could there be another reason? Are supplies drying up? The other thing I have noticed is that the ones that you can find people seem to be really really proud of based on the asking prices. Anyway, I have had the itch lately to buy and just can not seem to find any decent offerings.

Most of the ones I see around here are "newer" models from the last 10 years or so. Very rarely do I see an older IH model and they want $1000+ for those.

But it does seem like everyone thinks they have GOLD or something cuz even the non-CC brands are asking ALOT for them...

Been pretty slim pickings around here too. Mostly new Cubs. Only stuff I'd be looking for is too far away. Very few IH Cubs if any. I looked yesterday and only saw one, a nice 127 for $500, that I'd love to have if it wasn't so far away!!!

Remember the basics.....supply and demand.
When the supply get less and the demand stays steady or increases, so will the price.
When compared to other products one has to weigh; is the price for something that isn't made anymore really out of line. i know, depends on the item.
Of course this must be done on an individual basis, we all have differences when valuing something.
Also, sometimes a person seems excited about paying $300 for a tractor that eventually requires another $300 to fix but shied away from a nicer tractor for $500.
It's all about what one is willing to pay for something that ultimately determines it's worth.
Good luck with your finding and buying another Cub.

The best equipment (1997 & prior) has been drying up quickly over the last 3 years here in the MA-CT area. Don't believe it's related to Covid, although prices have spiked due to Covid like everything else. Lots of machines are parted-out continually year after year and remember - they only made so many. Many Series 4 machines (1998-2010) seem to be still available and even many more Series 5 (2011-).

I believe the best current supply of pre-1997 machines in the East (based on Craigslist/FB Marketplace listings) seem to be located in:

PA
Maryland
NY
NJ

I'm always looking for Cyclops and 82 Series equipment as they were the pinnacle of the brand with IH DNA. So when you find a 25+ year old machine in good condition, grab it!

Don't see much of a supply shortage here. The thing that seems to stand out here, is the prices.
