GT 1554 Smokes on startup
 

My son in law bought a used cub cadet on my say so, and its become a money pit, lol. Everything has been fixed so far but that when you start it , it smokes like crazy for aboput 20 secs, then quits running, and nothing you can do will get it to restart. Can someone help me? Its getting gas and has the right amount of oil and evrything. Plugs were checked and arte getting good spark, and are clean.

Give us an idea of how you are starting. Is choke being used? What color smoke? Does it run rough?

When was fuel last added/changed, stale gas will do funny things.

Does it have an electric valve in the bottom of the carb bowl? is it getting good power when the key is on?

What parts have been changed, on the engine and the tractor? may have disturbed some electrical somewhere.

I had pretty much the same issue with my parents 1554. It was bad gas that gummed up in the carb. I chose to put a new aftermarket carb on it rather than cleaning up the original carb. It's run great since.

Choke is being used, WHITER smoke, runs extremely rough then dies and wont start again til next morning

Fuel last added at start of spring, but old gas sat in it over winter with fuel additive added. No electric valve in the carb bowl ( that I saw, it could be there though). Plenty of power when cranked, replaced old battery as it didn't have enough crank amps to do anything. New solenoid which i put in start of spring and then had it checked to be sure I reinstalled it correctly, lol. Checked all electrical connections, and like i said, good spark from plugs and the tractor does start and turn over well

Will drain old gas and replace with new and see if that helps at all. thanks. Any other suggestions will be appreciated

On my Cub, I only use the choke pulled about 1/2 way out, & push it right back in after it starts. If I don't do it that way, it smokes to excess & it hard to start if I turn it off right away & try to restart it. [ flooded ]

Sounds like it is flooding. I would suggest taking carb off and give a good cleaning. The float may be getting stuck open etc..
White smoke is unburned fuel overly rich condition.
