PTO for 682 w/B&S Engine frustration.

Hello all. I don't know if this should be as difficult as it's being but, I need a new electric pto for my 682.

My cub does not have the original engine. It has been repowered with a 18 horse Briggs Vanguard.

I've called 2 places online that sell ptos and my local cub repair/dealer. I have given the specs I need but the answer I get from them is that without a part number they can't order one. If I knew a part number I'd order it myself.

I need a pto that is ccw with a 4.5 inch pulley for a 5/8 belt. Same as original pto for the 682.

The Vanguard shaft is 1 inch diameter by 28/32 long. So the pto needs to fit that.

It would seem I should be able to look up a pto with those specs and it would work. Or am I missing something else here?

Does anyone on here use a vanguard engine in there 682 or similar cub? What pto are you using?

Thanks.

Welcome to OCC
Hang in there, someone will be along to help, as I don't know your answer.

Is yours plum worn out or is it a bearing or a electrical issue?
Bearings can be replaced

When I bought the cub from the previous owner he had a older pto on it hat was sleeved to fit the vanguard shaft. The pto was worn out but it had enough life in it to show me that the the 50c deck did work. I got a good deal on the 682 knowing it needed the pto replaced. I removed it a couple years ago and I've been using the cub for snow plowing while using a 90s ranch king to mow. I either threw that pto away or misplaced it.

Is this B/S engine an aftermarket "fits all" or was designed for an OEM ?

Not sure on the specifics of the Briggs. The model number is 356447-3079-GS. The previous owner had it installed by his local IH dealer, said he mowed with it till the pto started failing. I was able to mow with it for one summer before it quit working. After about an hour of mowing it would disengage. Let the cub cool down and then I could finish mowing.

Too bad you no longer have that clutch, adjusting the "air gap" would have cured that problem 99% of the time.

I wish I would have kept it. I did take the cub to a mower repair guy in my town. He said he believed the air gap was the issue as well. He worked with it for a bit and couldn't get it to improve.

I wonder if this PTO clutch will work for you.

You could also use a crankshaft adapter for a 1-1/8 clutch.

That was one of the websites I called. I waited over 2 hours on the phone to speak with someone. That person put me on hold and the automated service hung up on me.

I was thinking this should work.

It looks like it would spec-wise. I'm not sure what a "a/b" belt is? Is that a size or a style? I called this website and the representative said they just sell parts they wouldn't know if it would work for me.
