Cub 109 not shutting off

Recently purchased, it ran fine but was leaking gas from carb when it set. I got into the habit of turning off the gas when I was done.

I'm not smart enough to leave well enough alone and rebuilt/cleaned carb. While it was off, I replaced the coil and condenser.

Now when used for a prolonged period, the engine won't shut off when the key is turned to the off position. I turned the gas off and it'll eventually stop.

Any ideas on what could cause this?

Thanks

With a volt meter or test light make sure the black wire going to the positive side of the coil has zero voltage with the key off. May be a bad switch.

First, welcome to OCC ............ :Welcome2:

I also suspect the Ignition Switch.

If it does not shut off, power has to be continuing to be provided to the coil, and will be continued to be there even after the motor runs out of gas.
That means at some point, if you do not fix it or disconnect the battery, you will find youself with a dead battery and a burnt-up brand new coil.
Do you have the wire from the ignition switch connected to the Plus side of the coil
Do you have the wire to the points connected to the negative side of the coil?
Do you have the condenser wire on the Negative side of the coil?
You didn't mention, but did you by any chance replace the ignition switch too?

Agree with others....and looks for bad or crossed connections leading to shorts and/or overheating the electrical components.

I had time to look at it today, wire going towards switch (+ side of coil) was original and had some play in the connector , I put a new end on it and cleaned the switch posts and connectors.

That appears to have resolved it.

Thanks for the tips!
