1450 hydro leak - Wet Brakes O-ring?
1 Attachment(s)
I have a hydro fluid leak the rear of my 1450. I removed the fenders, gave the area a thorough cleaning and it appears the leak is coming from the recess on the lower right front pf the rear end where the "wet brakes" actuator enters the rear end case. There is no sign of fluid leak above that recess but the fluid is obvious in the recess. That would eliminate the hydro gasket between the hydro tranny and the rear end, Right?
I'm presuming it is a bum O-ring, #4 on the attached wet brakes schematic. Anyone have experience replace this O-ring? Is there a step-by-step primer available for performing this task? Thanks in advance for any advice or direction you can provide.Attachment 108796 |
Spray the area with brake clean or other evaporating cleaner/solvent.
They blow dry with air hose, then clean again/dry. Thoroughly dust the area with baby powder/monkey butt powder or equivalent. Now watch for the leak, paying attention to the expansion plug in the center, under where the cork gasket lives.(about the size of a fifty cent piece.) This will tell you if it is the expansion plug or the brake plunger is leaking. #1 leak is the relief valves up top, and running down. #2 leak is the cork gasket. #3 leak is the expansion plug. #4 leak is the brake plunger. #5 leak is the suction fitting in that order. You don't want to fix the wrong non leaking item. :biggrin2: |
If it is the brake puck "O" ring leaking, this thread will help you if you read it carefully....
