Locked in gear

I have just a cub cadet 124. Engine runs great, clutch works great, my problem is the transmission keeps getting stuck stuck in second gear. I can remove shift lever, break the gears loose, replace the lever and it works fine thru all gears, than will suddenly lock up again. Help

pull the shifter off the top , it'll probably be easy to see the problem

Thanks, what will I be looking for?

You will take out the 8 bolts that hold the shifter plate to the top of the transmission case. The shifter and plate will lift up and out as a unit. Looking down into the opening you will see the two rods (Number 17), and the two shifter forks (numbers 14 and 18).
The two shifter forks are held in place on the rods buy the bolts (numbered 12).
I would venture a guess that one or both of the number 12 bolts have become loose or fallen out, or your shifter fork may be broken or bent.

I just quoted you ol'G. I too am curious about the cause of his cubs problems.
