Picked up this 1973 149 yesterday. Runs and drives. Needs a bit of work. Got some good attachments with this as well.

Oh heck yes!
That looks better than most of the ones I have AFTER I'm finished working on them. |
I looked it over today. Looks to be in good shape. Nothing really wrong with it. The hydro speed lever needs to be adjusted.
1. It's rubbing on the dash 2. It is out of alignment with neutral. It needs to be held up to start it so it doesn't start in reverse. I read the manual looks like both of those can be adjusted. I need a new fan on the drive shaft. Other than those things. Just change the fluids. Fix the lights and it should be good to go. I got it from the original family. It was purchased new locally at the ih dealer. They told me it was used till about 2008 when they got a server to cut their lawn. Then the old man removed the attachments and just drove around on it. |
Great news, and 5tat's kind of as expected because these things live a long time.
I'd certainly do an oil change right away if you've not done that. The hardest thing about the neutral adjustment is getting the lock nuts to free up, but it's not bad . It may or may not actually work but you can get it close (my 123 cannot be adjusted to find neutral from a forward setting) . The hydro fans always need replacement. Even after you replace it, it often needs replacement. In any event, You'll want to do the hydro adjustment first. Really a nice score. A 149 is a desirable tractor. |

If I can get it closer that would be fine. I just can't have it starting in gear. I didn't realize it and almost backed it into the wall. Oops. Fluid changes are a must. When I get time, it will be pressure washed and get some tlc. |
