682 that won't start
 

Need some advice have 1981 682 with kt-17 seires 1 rebuilt the engine have had it running several times before can't get it to start. I replaced points condenser started after that now don't want to start it has fire at plugs not a good blue spank but should be good enough to fire? :bash2:

Is it getting fuel and does it have good compression? What exactly do you mean by 'rebuild'? If you put new rods in it, I hope you drilled oil holes in the rod caps, because all the series I specific parts (including the rods) are NLA and you cannot use Series II/Magnum rods without drilling the oil holes. It will seize or throw a rod if you don't.

Thanks Matt it was bored .010 over new pistons, new rods, ground valves& seats and yes the rod caps were drilled. I had engine running 5 to 6 times after rebuild then didn't want to run checked for spark wasn't any so talked to a guy that is small engine mech. he thought could condencer bought new points and condencer replaced them ran a peice of extra fine sand paper through contact on points sprayed good with a little carb cleaner and installed. Fired up engine and ran for half hour ran good tryed to start month later will not start. Has half tank of fresh gas fuel shut is open fuel in carb. Think could be coil ?

The spark on these engines is pretty yellow and weak, even with all-new components, so I don't think it's that. Are you sure that gas is getting from the carb into the engine? Try squirting some gas into the intake while cranking to see if it will fire. If so, you've got a fuel problem, and if not, it's something else.
