My dad had problems with the angle on those pulleys on the mule drive. He would only get about 3 mowings before the drive belt shredded itself. When it first happened, he thought it was an old dry-rotted belt, but when the replacement did it again after 3 mowings, I knew we had a problem. With yet another belt mounted, I took the look at the path the belt took. Eyeing up the belt as it passed over the pulleys, I could see the right one had a twist and the was pointed toward the rear tire. I was misaligned so much the belt was riding up out of the sheeve as it left the pulley. I took 2 adjustable wrenches and with them adjusted to hold onto the swing-arm for the pulley and with one up near the swing point and the other down near the pulley, I "adjusted" the angle on the pulley so it was pointed toward the drive pulley on the deck. I did the same sightly on the other mule drive pulley. So far, he's gotten 2 seasons with the same belt - big improvement. I don't know how the arm got twisted, maybe it got hit with something while doing other yard work with the tractor. IDK....
