149 steering

Hi, I have a 71 149 and the steering itself is the typical cub steering however last winter at some point I noticed my steering wheel was moving around like something at the top of the steering column came loose or apart. I haven't taken anything apart but from looking at it it doesn't appear that there is anything to break at the top of the column. Is there something up top between the top of the dash and the bottom of the steering wheel that could be causing the problem ? I have attached a video that will hopefully give a better idea of what I'm talking about. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you !!

There is a plastic spacer in top of the steering shaft tube. They break overtime. You can install a 3/4 bearing in its place, you will have to bend/crimp the tube a bit to hold bearing in place.

I have my shaft out on the bench, I'll snap a pic when I get in shop.

Here are the pictures.
The black plastic is original. Bearing is a common wheel bearing.

Hi Matt,
I just saw your reply and pics. Thank you so much !! I was hoping it was something like this but I honestly had no idea. I know it happened when I was snow blowing last winter. It must've broke and somehow popped off without me seeing it. Thanks again !!

It may have just popped up out of the column outer tube and is sitting under the steering wheel. If it is, you can work it back in the tube, shoot a screw through it and it'll stay put.
