Seeking tutorial to replace hydro fluid on 2182
Is there a prior tutorial with photos how to get the job done for a 2182
i Want to drain and replace fluid Quite possible the original from 1995 danman |
My tractors are similar, but not “Super” sized
Removing the filter will allow some fluid to drain. Under the filter is a pipe plug with a square female recess. Use a ratchet or breaker bar inserted into the plug and remove. Be prepared for ~ 6 + quarts to drain I have changed the hydrostatic fluid probably 3 times in 25 years and many more just filter changes. Last drain was this (2020) spring. Fluid appeared like new. I have never removed the rear cover to clean the differential |

Sam Mac and Roland are right on the filters.
I dont want to assume anything about your tractor so - look at what comes out of the drain - is it clean? even at 25 years it should still be clean and should be able to see through it - catch some in a clear container and inspect it. there should be no rust,water/milkiness or solids/glitter. IF YOU HAVE POOR LOOKING OIL then remove the rear cover(stamped steel cover on the differential) and do a thorough clean and rinse. also get every thing you can out of the hydrostat prior to a refill. I would like to add that the hytran has served you well for 25 years. I would not cut five or ten dollars off the cost for a different oil. there have been multiple write-ups about the value of Hytran. if you were the type to change the fluid every year or two then I would say use an equivalent. if you change it once every twenty five years then stick with what is proven itself in your own tractor. |
