Command 18 fuel delivery
 

I thought I had done my homework on this one

This is on a 1864. The engine is not getting enough fuel when at operating temp under load. I pulled the tank it has new valves and tea and fuel line and fuel filter everything between the tank and fuel pump is new
The engine seems to have internal issues, there is slight smoke coming out of the valve breather/oil fill cap
I am wondering if there is pressure in the crank case not allowing the fuel pump to work? I am not sure how the fuel pump works if it runs off a vacuum?

The 1864 should have a Kohler CH18S-62588 engine in it.

That engine used a "pulse" type of Fuel Pump (KH-24-393-16). Per the Kohler Command Service Manual on Page 23, it outlines the specifications and test procedures.

If you don't have the Service Manual, I can send you the Manual or just page #23.

Yes I do have those in place
This morning it was more or less 80° and I decided to drag my long stone driveway which I do at a low speed the drag maybe weighs 120 pounds and is 5 foot wide. I kept the engine at just above and idle and it ran for quite some time when it began to sputter and die I opened the hood and noticed the oil fill cap has three vent holes and you could see oily smoke pouring from those three small holes. While the engine was running I removed that And there is a lot of pressure coming from inside the valve cover but it made the engine come back to life

I am thinking this one needs to be torn down and rebuilt unless it is a valve issue

I've not seen a Command with three vent holes in the fill cap.

As stated above, the fuel pump works off crank case pulses. As the pistons go up/down, pressure rises and falls in the crankcase and pulses the diaphragm in the pump. I don't see how the pump could work with a vented fill cap or even the crank case breather.

I could be all wet but don't think so.

Well it makes no sense that there is a picture of a gas pump on the cap
But there is definitely pressure under the cap

I've never seen a cap like that one. Kohler may have moved the reed valve breather to the cap?

Maybe someone else can help?

Do yall 'pose sum biddy done went and transposed the gas cap with the oil fill cap?
