1525 PTO Switch

Switch engages fine but after running for short while the blades disengage and I have to push switch in then pull it back out to re-engage. It does this a couple times during grass cutting. Bad switch, clutch, advice please.

First, welcome to OCC............ :Welcome2:

Before "shot gunning" the tractor with parts, check to see if the air gap on the PTO is out of spec.

Thanks! I'll check it out.

Any chance your going over bumps and your butt comes out of the seat just enough to trip the safety switch in seat?

What is your battery condition? If you have a weak battery you may not have enough voltage for the coil on the clutch.:bigthink:

The Same PTO Issue 2025

I have the same issue with my Model 1525 tractor PTO clutch as the originator of this thread.

It started with some heavy grass that stopped the tractor dead while mowing.
That lead to a damaged drive belt that I cut off.
That lead to a full motor removal so I could cut the rusted-to-the-shaft pulley off the shaft in order to replace it and the belt.
Then I could see that the magnet in the original clutch was cracked through from side to side in two places. I replaced the clutch and now get the same intermittent PTO operation, it comes on and lasts 5 seconds, sometimes less and then shuts off

My battery could very well be the problem. Today when I revisited the issue, the first start up of the mower actually lasted the longest. Subsequent tries gave me shorter run times. Does that sound like the battery?

Follow-up: I have replaced the battery which was 7 years old and the problem still exists.
