Hitch and differential cover question
Could pulling heavy loads with the hitch/differential cover setup cause the cover to leak?
|
Yes and no.
Yes if you yanked the bolts out of the housing and stripped the threads of the hitch plate bolt threads. Not easily done unless the bolts were loose or too long and already comprised. Most times one installs too long of a bolt, and it bottoms out before becoming tight, or worse it is tightened and breaks the blind hole area out of the casting. No if the hitch is properly tightened and the gasket or sealant is not compromised. I'am assuming you are asking of a cast iron differential cover plate as you make no mention what model or make of equipment. :bigthink: |
Thanks George, I was referring to the cast iron ones on the 60's and 70's IH Cubs, with the 3 longer bolts on bottom going thru the hitch plate.
