Trunion Help Please!

I'm ready to weld up the slot for the Trunion spring and hopefully tame the jerky herky I'm experiencing.

Question, is the large spring supposed to have space at its ends?

As you can see in the photo, I have .150" space between the end of the big spring and the trunion slot.

Thanks

In short.....NO

Another fellow measured his spring and it was .956. Mine is .965. And the dimensions of the "slot" is spot on at 1.20" X .756"

Makes sense that the large spring would be shorter than the small spring. Small spring comes into play unl;ess you hammer the gear selector and then the large spring takes over.....No?

Here is what it looks like with the welded repair.

Also shimmed the pivot pin so it is nice and smooth now.

The Verdict......Well, It's better....But not perfect. Still a bit jerky but better than before. And now when I hit the brake in FORWARD, it returns perfectly to neutral. but braking from reverse it still creeps backwards.

If there is a fix for this it will have to wait until another day.

Sleeve hitch install tomorrow.....
