1535 clutch noises
 

I've been noticing the last couple times I've ran the 1535 it has a rattling or grinding noise in the driveshaft/clutch area. However if I put a slight pressure on the pedal it will quiet down, any ideas? For what it's worth I have the original owners records and this machine has had 2 clutch assembly replacements in the past, one in 1996 and the next in 2003. That seemed excessive to me:bigthink:. So far it has not affected driving/pulling how I use it, but I also don't want to cause more damage to the unit.

I'd be looking at the clutch area again.

Well I finally looked into this mess. Not sure if the joint at the creeper should wobble or not? This one does about 1/4" of play in a circular motion. pic#1

I did notice that the throwout bearing appears to have been rubbing the realease lever, and wore a deep groove in it? Also when I removed the clutch assembly the shoulder bolt that holds the realease lever was missing the nut, and the lever had side to side movement until I put slight pressure on the pedal.

You should not have any play in the CV joint adapter where it fits on the input shaft to the transmission. My bet is that it and the shaft are worn. You'll probably need a new adapter (item circled in red), they are NLA from Cub but fortunately Jeff in PA makes an improved replacement that has 2 set screws to help eliminate the wobble if your input shaft is also worn.

How do parts #1 and #2 look?

Look for cracks in the center of #2.

Thank you for the information Sam and Mike. I will likely reach out to Jeff for the parts. Parts #1 and #2 looked good to me but I'll post some pics to get some more eyes on them. I have #2 on the workbench but #1 is still in the tractor. I will post a pic of the driveshaft as well I was not sure what to look for other than being bent like one in a QL.

Does your throw out bearing spin freely and without noise?

Is the spinning bearing rubbing the release lever making the noise?
