NF PTO Clutch - spring tension
Hi all. First post here. Joined the forum after picking up a 125 about 2 years ago. Done a lot of reading. Lots of good info here. Since then picked up a second 125 and a non running 128 mostly for the implements. It had been sitting for several years. Exhaust valve was stuck open. Its running now but smokes a good bit.
I got one of the decks working and put it on the latest 125. Turned on pto and blades would barely turn. It had worked when i got the mower last summer. One of the spring screws had came loose. Got the pto apart and off the mower with any troubles. I resurfaced the main body of the pto on my lathe. I had a gauge to set the spring tension that was in a box of parts i picked up with the 128, but it was for a WF. I made one for a NF using info I found on this site. I set the tension but wanted to check out the operation before putting it back together. I found a piece of scrap close to the size of the bearing and put it in my vise. It takes very little compression to disengage the clutch. Probably no more then 1/16". The spring is the type with the turned down or curved feet where it contacts the clutch body. Does this sound about right?
Thanks. Todd
