Delco Starter/Generator

Would anyone know the nut size that fit the field coil lugs that go through the Delco case? I have lost one and can't match at the hardware. I have googled and searched the forum but came up empty. Thanks, and have a great day.

12-24...... I believe you were talking about the nuts for wire hook-up, correct?

AND, 12-24 is not a common nut,
so you might have to try multiple hwd.
stores.

Not impossible, but hard to find. IIRC, that is also a Brass Nut too.

Thanks for all your replies and info. Will start looking at different hardware stores. Does the nut have to be brass? Have a great day.

It was made from brass as to strip out the nut before the stud would be harmed thus saving you the headache of opening up the S/G to replace..It was probably also brass so it would not corrode and rust as quickly being exposed. It doesn't have to be brass to function, but be careful not to over tighten if its made from something else

Delco Gen/Starter

I went back to the hardware that I visited twice yesterday. Today, I was armed with the correct size of nut. Manager looked and could not find one. Said he would call Fastenal for me. We went up to the check out counter and as he was calling, he asked me the size again. A clerk was working at end of counter. She had the box that had the correct nuts. It also had the brass nuts which I purchased 3. Wires are back on Starter/ Gen. Oil pan is back on and engine is bolted to frame. Finished putting rest of tractor together. It started right up and I ran it for 30 minutes. Used the new grade eight 1-1/4" bolts for oil pan and they torqued to 35#. Hopefully when I look tomorrow there will be no oil under tractor. Thanks again and have a great day.
