New member with a 582
 

Hello, new member here with an old 582 that I am trying to get up and going. I am not familiar with lawn tractors or small engines, much less cub cadet specifics, so I imagine I will be bothering the community with lots of questions.

I'm pretty sure this is a MTD version, the serial number is in the 732000 range. It has kinda of a neat history for me - my father bought this 582 new to pull airplanes around at the local airport, so it's whole life was spent tugging aircraft around hangars or to and from the ramp. I don't think it has ever seen dirt, always concrete. We used it on everything from small 2-seaters and ultralights to corporate sized twins and jets, and it served well. My father sold his last airplane years ago, and the 582 just sat in the back of the hangar until just recently when we vacated it.

As you can see, it's has a seen a lot of years of just sitting, even though the layer of dust and dirt that covered it has mostly been washed off. I'd like to get it going, if for no other reason than it brings me memories of some good times in life. Since it was only used as a tug, I don't have any accessories. However, I'd like to put together a mowing rig, and maybe a tiller. That way it could be both nostalgic and useful.

That range in size of aircraft is quite a testimony to the well-built 82 series.

Small single engine Cessna have a max take off weight of 2000-2500 pounds. Airport ramps are typically pretty flat so pushing wouldn't be an issue. Enough room on ramps to anticipate stops. I see quite a few garden tractors doing this but the 582 probably does better than most especially with those wheel weights.

Thank you all! I've been working on it here and there, making a little headway. Maybe by the summer it'll be rolling around and cleaned up. Already need some advice, but I'll go over to the proper forum for that.
