Cub Cadet Original

I have a Cub Cadet Original and it runs but only runs on choke. It needs a valve cover gasket, and valve cover stud. It also needs a head gasket due to small leaking. I opened the carb up ( I have a brand new carb kit I got from a friend) and I found out the float has a leak. So its obviously flooding the engine. Would it just be better to buy a new carb on amazon for $20 bucks ??

IMHO, NO. The American made Kohler Carb is built way better and worth rebuilding, than that Chinese Crap. But it is your call.

it you have to keep it choked, it is LEAN
If the float has a hole in it, it will fill with gas, sink and run rich.
also if the float is full of gas it will leak when shaken/warmed
best to find the pin hole and enlarge just a bit with a needle or pin.
Then fully empty it and solder the hole shut.
Next you have to CLEAN the carb, paying attention to the passageways and the emulsion tube,
Reassemble and ADJUST the main jet and idle settings so it runs as it should.
Nothing performs better than the Carter model "N" carbs.

Maybe address the head gasket before trying to fine tune carb.. That will certainly cause abnormal lean/rich conditions among other issues.

I'll be the contrarian and say "go get the chinese carb".

Then, after your tractor is running right, rebuild the original and swap when needed.

While I detest chinese crap, I'll use them when I'm in a pinch. In every case, they've provided good service (I've yet to have one fail)

YMMV

Alright, well i soaked the carburetor in some dawn soap and water and it works good now, And i patched the float but when i put the belt on the mower deck and hook everything up, as the engine spins so does the mower blades and i know its supposed to be when the pedal is pressed down it tightens up the belt, so the pedal rod goes to the piece that the whole spindle mounts on, is that whole thing supposed to move?

Sounds like you PTO is staying engaged for starters. Yes, The deck belt will rise and fall with the deck.

Do you have a triangle deck? or rectangular? There were square decks that had engagement lever on the deck.

By the way, Would ag tires work for some grass mowing, my yard is all downhill so generally most of the water from the road goes to my yard and it gets muddy so would the ag tires be good and not tear the grass up?

Sure! I have ags on my 782D for the same reason. They work fine on the yard.

Interesting....Could you post a picture of that pedal/rod/spindle setup??
