Spindle Bearings
Hey guys
My 149 with deck 42U1113 is in need of a rebuild...the deck that is... specifically the bearings and blades. My question is this has anyone tried swapping out these spindles for something not so pricey to rebuild. If I'm correct they use the ST745 bearings that, to me, are way too expensive. Has anyone tried cutting a tapper on the shafts to use a replaceable bearing? Or maybe used an entirely different spindle? I've seen entire spindle set ups with pully for $60-ish. So for me to pay $80 each for just the bearings seems insane. Tapperd bearings run around $20 ....idk just seeing what y'all have done before I fork out $250 for bearings. Thanks guys. |
The 42" Mower Deck was made for many years and had many generations of improvements. The first generation started with U1111. Each generation increased the "U" by one (ie: U1111, U1112, U1113, etc).
Starting at U1115, IH went to the ST-745 bearing for these mower decks. I would venture to say, that if you want to go back to the taper'd bearing, you can do so by ordering parts used from decks 42U1111 to 42U1114. You can get a copy of the CPE-2B IH Parts Catalog from Technical Library Section - see link: (Parts Catalog) |

In addition to the information that Roland provided, there is no aftermarket or other brand (that I know of) spindles that can be used as a replacement. If you want replaceable bearings your only option is to go back to the earlier generation spindles which means you have to buy the whole spindle assembly. By that time, you will have spent more.

i havent torn my old one apart yet. so i dont need the 745 since mine is 1113 correct? i need 473-430-R91?

There's not much sense in us guessing what you need until you tear it apart and tell us what you've got! (and show us too, pictures of what you've got help a lot)
|
The 42U1113 would have the older taper'd bearings....UNLESS....some one changed them out for the ST-745 type.

Thank you gentleman! I'll tear it apart this weekend, and see what I've got.
