New to Only Cub Cadets from east Tennessee

I have a couple of questions for you guys. First of all, is there anyone on here near Maryville Tennessee? Second question, i found a guy that has a couple of 147s and a couple of 122s, all have been sitting what looks like a few years. Is either one of these 2 better than the other?
This will be a project build, fix, repair, so I have no timeline to finish. I don't know true condition of these machines, i.e., engine stuck, hydros work etc. They look to be complete with mower decks. Any advise would be appreciated. They want $700 for 2 147s or $600 for 2 122's, no deck but said they would give me a deck if i got the 122s. Last question for now, can the hydros go bad on these units after sitting so long?
Sorry for long post, just looking for guidance.

thanx for your time,

Scott Swain.

Welcome aboard, Scott

Hydros don't have to sit to go bad. As old as these cubs are, they could go bad while you're looking at them. The prices aren't bad if they're running pretty good. (pretty steep if only sort of running). Here's a hint you can take for what its worth. Guys with multiple cubs generally have a lot of parts laying around. Drag home all that they will throw in with your purchase, figure out what it is and figure out if you'll ever use it and part it out or throw in the "save for now" pile. Good luck, my friend. Sounds like you've just been diagnosed with cub fever. CB

Welcome to OCC....

Just curious where the tractors are kept? Indoors or rotting away outdoors?

Without seeing the condition these tractors and assuming they non-runners at this time, are a bit too spendy, even if the decks are included with both pairs. I would say $400-500 for the non running hydro pair if they look mostly good and kept indoors. The same with 122's.

As for the hydros.... these units are built tough but expect to find leaks at some of the seals. Generally, if the hydros don't work, it's usually one or more of the three most common things; 1) broken coil pin of driveshaft, 2)Bad relief valves or 3) oil and filter need changing. All are easy fixes. There could be other problems but they are rare.

Good Luck!

Welcome to OCC!

Either would be a great tractor. The 122’s would be a 12hp gear drive. The 147’s would be a 14 hp hydro.

If you can post a few pictures, we can give your better idea of the value. The prices seem high to me, although it would depend on condition and if they have any options. I paid $300 for my 147 running.

I am I middle Tennessee and those prices are high for my area. No runners are 150.00-300.00 depending on how clean and if they have been sitting outside or not.

Welcome to OCC ! Hydro/Gear Drive both equally dependable ,best to decide what you want to do with the tractor, I prefer hydro tractors myself I just think they a better for mowing , if your going to use some ground engaging implements you may prefer the gear drives, usually a matter of personal preference ! good luck either way ! 150-200$ for a non runner in decent shape with deck isn't too bad I've even paid a little more if the tractor was in exceptional condition otherwise ! these are narrow frame tractors, wide frames are a little easier to work on as they have the removable trans cover, but equally good machines !:beerchug:
