Cub 1864 PTO light

Good evening! First time posting....I bought an 1864 last spring to use for snow removal and I had it rebuilt this past Fall. I put a new coil in it about a month ago as well. About a week ago I was blowing snow (with the side panels off) and after about an hour had an odd noise and I think a puff of smoke and then it started running like garbage. I got it back to the garage and shut it off. I thought it might be a fuel issue, so I checked and replaced the fuel pump (old pump wasn't putting out much fuel). Cleaned up the carb a few times and replaced some of the lines. It will crank over beautifully, but will not start. I haven't checked for spark yet (next check) but I was wondering if there is anything else I should be looking for. Electrical is not my strong suit and some snow definitely blew through the engine. When I turn the key, I get the low oil (it isn't) and the disengage PTO light on when cranking (pto is not spinning). Engine is the CH18s.

First, welcome to OCC............... :Welcome2:

First, make sure the PTO switch is in the OFF position. The Brake Pedal has to be depressed. Both of these are needed, to roll the engine over.

The CH18 has a Magneto Ignition System. Thus, if you have no spark, it can mean one of two things. (A) The Ignition Coil is bad, or (B) the "Kill" wire going to the Ignition Coil is grounded (shorted).

First simply test would be to remove the "yellow" wire from the "M" on your ignition switch. See if that bears any results.

You may have sucked some snow into the air cleaner running without the side panels. Low oil light comes on as soon as you turn the key. PTO light should only come on when the PTO switch is in the run position.

The low oil light indicates the pressure, not the oil level.

Thanks for the info guys! I pulled the ignition switch and it looks rough (one of the blades is black). The harness doesn't look great either....Taking it to the shop, electrical is beyond me. Hopefully I can can post that it's good as new in a few weeks.

Update: Turns out the cam shaft snapped. A trip to the shop later and she's up and running. Still need to do the electrical.
