Engine swap 2084 - 2182

Hello everyone , any advice sure would be greatly appreciated here . I have owned my 2084 since new year (1994) but recently discovered I am losing the engine soon. Been an awesome machine all these years.
Couple weeks ago I picked up a 2182 with the wg600 kubota motor in it and now considering moving the kubota motor over my 2084 cub . I know I’ll be faced with some big changes like motor mounts and possibly some wiring too. Has anyone ever done something like this or yet is it possible? Been looking closely at it and seems easy enough to do. Looks like a weekend project to me. The 2182 is year (1991) so I am not sure how different the wiring is behind the dash panel.

I can see maybe you are attached to the 2084, but why not just use the 2182 and fix the 2084.

What is wrong with the engine? How many hours?

The 20hp Kohler in the 2084 is running extremely hot to the point that it began to melt the plastic grill panel and found the left cylinder so much hotter. Found debris in the oil also.
The 2182 I bought has the earlier style rock shaft that been broken and welded along with a broken cam stop cone for the deck height adjustment. My chassis and frame is near mint on my 2084 and also has the updated rock shaft design with the outer removable bushings . My intention to repower the 2084 with another Kohler was looking to be expensive so I thought to start looking for another machine, when I found this 2182 , it runs very well and has the 60” 374 deck also. But that frame needs work and needs some sand blasting as well. This is what gave me the idea to switch the engine over to my 2084.

I would not strip the 2182 to fix the 2084. Relatively big job even if they are sitting side by side. Besides, both tractors are worth a premium compared to some others.

I'd investigate fixing the 2084 Kohler engine. That's up to you.

When was the last time you pulled the kohler and cleaned under the tins?

How much air do you feel flowing out of the front grill when it's running?

Is the air shroud in tact an in place?

If it was me I'd look for a 2000 series Cub like a 2185 or 2550 with a CH18 or larger for an organ donor. :beerchug:

I have never pulled the Koehler engine. Never thought that was needed. I have kept the engine clean all these past years and kept the oil clean too. The hours on this machine are undetermined as the hour meter seemed to have an issue with working and not working. Now showing somewhere around 469 hours .

This is a Kohler out of an 1864. It overheated and puked a head gasket.
