How's this for an absolute FREEBIE????
 

My mom called yesterday and told me she just bought a new Kubota 1880 mower and she was tired of the old Cub she has. She just replaced the battery and on thursday she tried to start it and it was making engine noise,smoking and then there was no power when she hit the key. I told her I would be right down and fix it,but she said she just wanted it gone. It was either coming home to my house or would be sat along the road for free. I told her I'd be down this am to get it out of her way. I hit the key and no power. I used a multimeter to see voltage and it has 13.9 volts. Right beside the battery was a fuse,so I popped it out,and sure enough,it was blown. I then tried starting it.I checked the oil and hit the key,it knocked pretty bad so I thought it was toast. I decided to start tearing the covers off the motor as well as the hood etc. Then I spied a possible trouble. Oil was all over the head and dripping off the motor. When I grabbed a wire to move it,the bolt that was holding the wire retainer on was severely loose. I then thought I would try tightening them up. This tractor has never been apart so the factory must have missed tightening the bolts as it always seeped oil. When I tightened them up,the hoise went away and it was very quiet again. No oil leaks etc. I then reinstalled all the parts and fired it back up,then engaging the PTO. Took it out in the yard and the smoking stopped,it had all kinds of power as well as no noise. It mows excellent too.. It needs a little bit of cleaning up,but will be my main mower now keeping the 1200 for HD duty etc..This is a 5/06 built mower,so it's not all worn out yet. I even schooled Deanna on how to operate it. Not bad for free...

Awesome deal Pat! Looks like a great little mowing machine. I wonder if they were supposed to use thread locker on some of those bolts....I've noticed on a lot of the newer aluminum engines, all the fasteners have thread-locker on them...maybe they missed those? Great job diagnosing the problem, and getting her going again! Bet your mom is kicking herself now...although it does sound like a good excuse to buy a new tractor :biggrin2.gif:

Great pictures! Those tractors are alot eazier to get on than my cc 71.

After a little,and I mean little maintenance,I have put more than 2.5 hours on this machine and it runs flawless. It only has 140.7 total hours on it. I am contemplating a trade for either a 682,782 or 982 or possibly a 129 or 149. This tractor should still bring close to a grand as I just did the maintenance on it like oil and filter,air filter, blades sharpened as well as grease and new belts. I would really like a red tractor,but may have to sell this as no one seems to want the newer style tractors. It does run sweet and mows nice,plus has no vibration wheil mowing..
