Steering on 129

I had about a full one quarter turn of the steering wheel before any response at the front wheels. I tightened up the bolts going through the steering knuckles and axle ends and it helped a little bit. I put in a Ross thrust bearing. I don't think that did anything at all. Has anyone done anything to improve steering on this model? I have not pulled off the wheel and shaft yet, but I am wondering if the cam follower has an adjustment that might help, or just replacing the cam follower. Also been looking for a tractor with one inch spindles (I saw a YouTube in which a guy used a front end from a 1872 to strengthen his front end). I have a loader on this so I understand the need to limit the load weight to avoid excess stress on the steering parts. Thanks for any help.

What a time getting the steering wheel off...I had to make my own contraption out of pieces of steel I had around to go under the wheel and then used a flywheel puller to get it off...had to leave it soaking in a combination of trans fluid with acetone, liquid wrench, wd40 and Kroil overnight

loose the WD.
it is a Water Dispersant, shouldn't have any water on the threads. :bigthink:

I would agree. Stopped using that stuff 15+ yrs ago. Kroil is good. I personally use PB Blaster.

The WD in its name does stand for Water Displacement...but that is just one of its uses ...it does also lubricate, penetrate and protect surfaces...here is an interesting video where different penetrants are compared under pretty exacting conditions and measured carefully https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUEob2oAKVs&vl=en

Been doing my own "testing" in real world conditions for about 35 years now.. George been testing for about 90 years I think :biggrin2: Roland has a bunch of years under his belt.... WD sucks in comparison to kroil, PB and a few others including the home made stuff "acetone and trans fulid"

Ive seen a bunch of videos like this in the past. Wonder who really sponsors them :bigthink:

Watch the video again.. You see him spray every product except for the WD.. Found that odd

Used to get that stinky Kroil in 5 gal pails, in my humble opinion, it's the
best out there.
But when my source
"dried" up, I switched to Peanut butter blaster.:biggrin2:
just something to ponder, found on the 'net

I visited ol'George at the old Cubber's home recently and he said to tell you that he has been testing Kroil for 89 years...not 90...so there get yer facts straight:biggrin2:! Seriously, Kroil is the best but PB Blaster is cheaper.
