I have a HDS 2185 that is giving me alot of trouble. The problem is with the fuel system. I have cleaned the carburetor and the engine only runs with the choke on. My other problem with it if I try and run the mower deck the engine will kill as soon as I turn on the PTO. The engine will also kill when I release the foot brake pedal.

Is there A reset for the electrical system on this machine?

I had a 2185, exact same problem. A brand new carb was my only answer. Never had another running problem after I put it on. Yeah the carb is quite expensive, but was worth it getting the mower to run correctly. Before replacing the carb, I did check and replace all fuel line, fuel pump and anything else that could have been a culprit. If I am not mistaken there is an electronic solenoid on those carbs that goes bad and messes with the fuel delivery.

Had the same problem on a 2160. The welch plug had fallen out of the back of the carb just above the adjustment screw for the slow speed mix. Was able to put a rubber plug in it and it runs OK now.
